Started with a gradient base, added foreground shapes, and used two colors for highlights and shadows. Then, I used a low-opacity gradient overlay to blend the environment with the sky and added two more layers for depth and perspective.

Rat Race - Skybox

Skybox made for a 3D Unity game Rat Race (https://thuytienha.itch.io/rat-race-arcade), which is going to be presented at the Gotland Game Conference 2024.

Rat Race is a 2-player co-op arcade game of an endless runner type with a dynamically generated map using hexagonal tiles. As the hexagonal tiles we used are flat and the inspiration for the environment setting were semi-arid deserts with mesas appearing in the distance, I created several mesa-like hills on the horizon line so the player would be able to see something in the distance instead of just seeing the edge of the map.
